PRS Torero – “A Shredder’s Dream”

Announced back in September, the PRS SE Torero has arrived and sees a bit of a departure for PRS. Paul Reed Smith referred to the Torero as “a shredder’s dream”. It certainly has many of the required attributes.  Let’s take a look.
For a start, it’s the first PRS to be fitted with a Floyd Rose and locking-nut.  Tick one for shrediosity value.  It’s got a pair of EMG pickups – tick two.  It’s also the first PRS with a through-neck construction.  Perhaps not essential but it allows a blended, sculpted …

PRS Help Secret Drinkers With Anniversary Hip Flask

Rock ‘n’ roll and booze just go hand in hand, don’t they.  If you’re considering joining the celebrated and illustrious pantheon of rock-stars who have drunk themselves to death you may want to consider accessorising your drinking problem with something guitar-related?
PRS can help with their 25th Anniversary hip flask.
It’s an 8 oz, stainless steel flask with a captive screw-on cap (so you don’t lose it when you’re a little, ahem, worse for wear).
So then, if you’re planning on choking to death on your own vomit, why not do it with …

PRS Coffee Table Book – The Art Of PRS

PRS is offering a, rather snazzy-looking, collection of guitar images in a large, coffee-table book.
Photographed by Japanese photographer, Tomuku Ohtani, the book features a collection of Private Stock electric and acoustic guitars and basses.
The Art Of PRS has more than 80 pages of, what seem to be stunning, images of PRS instruments.  It’s a hardback book, measuring 23.5″ x 16.5″ and includes a double-sided poster.
Paul Reed Smith himself commented, “the quality of the flats and guitar photos that I have viewed from this book are at the limit of human ability …

PRS – SE Singlecut Korina

You can now get yourself an SE Singlecut PRS made from Korina.
What’s all the fuss you ask?
Well, Korina is a splendid wood to make guitars from.  The first Gibson Flying V and Explorers were made from Korina and it’s being used more and more lately.  Korina is, in many ways, very similar to mahogany (they’re close cousins really) – it has a similar grain pattern, although it’s usually a little lighter in colour.  It’s also often lighter in weight than mahogany too although individual pieces will obviously vary.  Korina sounds …

Hear PRS’ Sweet 16 Amp

We talked, a while back, about PRS’ new Sweet 16 amplifier.
Remember?  A 16-watt 6V6-based head with a master volume.  It seemed pretty tempting to say the least.  It looked great, the specs were great.  The only thing left was how it sounded.
Well, now you can find out.
Below is Mike Clark playing through the Sweet 16 and attached 1 x 12″ cab. For the pedants, he’s playing a 305 and McCarty.

PRS 25th Anniversary Models

Seems everybody’s having anniversaries.  PRS are 25 and are celebrating by getting you to give them money.  In return, however, they’ll give you guitars.  And not just ordinary guitars, but 25th Anniversary models.
Quite plush they are too.  They’ll have all of the usual PRS snazziness built in – you know the story – and will feature new colours, special binding and the anniversary inlays (you can see some in the image above). These are the 25th Anniversary Shadow Birds.  If you like the PRS birdie inlays, these are a nice …

Thank You From PRS

PRS is not ungrateful.  Provided you live in the US of course.
If you are States-based, and you buy yourself a shiny new PRS guitar – from an authorised PRS dealer – between October 15th and December 31st, 2009, you can get yourself a big thank you from PRS.
All you need to do is to send a copy of your receipt and the serial number of your axe to PRS and they will send you the PRS Thank You Pack which includes PRS-branded picks, strap, strings and cleaning kit.  Oh, …

PRS Ampire Expansion – Sweet 16 Amp

Ahhh, sweet, low-wattage valve tones.
Paul Reed Smith’s efforts to take over the world continue apace with this, the Sweet 16.
We’re talking a 16 watt head powered by 6V6 valves.  It’s a master volume amp with a full treble/middle/bass stack and a built in reverb.  The amps are handwired (albeit to printed circuit boards) in the US.
All pots, switches, jacks, and power tube sockets are chassis-mounted which bodes well for reliability.
Tube-wise, the 6V6s are cathode biased, in push-pull, to near class A.  The preamp tubes are a little unusual.  There are …

Paul Reed Smith Keeping Busy – Now It’s Cables

Not content with more guitars than he can eat and a shed-load of new amps (more later, perhaps), Paul Reed Smith is now offering cables.
The PRS ‘Signature’ Series cables are manufactured to Reed Smith’s specifications by Van Damme (UK-based maker of top cables).
The PRS Cables range includes microphone, speaker and, of course, instrument cables.
Let’s face it, cable specs are not the most interesting things in the world.  Suffice it to say that these cables are very well shielded, ultra-low capacitance, and are fitted with proper, gold-plated NEUTRIK connectors.
They come with …

PRS And Santana – Now There’s The Abraxas

PRS have had a pretty long run with Carlos Santana and it’s a relationship that has produced some nice guitars. Here’s the latest.
The Abraxas or, to give it its proper name, the Carlos Santana SE One Abraxas is, in PRS’ words ‘in celebration of Santana’s long history with PRS’.
It’s a guitar that harkens nicely back to the Les Paul Junior models.  A fixed, wraparound, stoptail and a single P90-style pickup in a nice, single-cut piece of mahogany is a recipe that promises sweet tone.
The hardware is nickel and it’s got …
