The SG Special Raw Power… Hmmm, something’s not quite right here. What is it? What is it?
Of course. It’s the crazy mapleness of this SG.
Gibson announced these a few weeks back and, no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you – that really is a maple SG. Maple’s worth as a tone wood isn’t in doubt and nobody can dispute the handsomeness of a nicely figured example but, this is the first all-maple SG. Oh sure, the guys at Gibson have dallied with maple tops and whatnot, but an SG made …

Vintage have announced the launch of a signature model, Gordon Giltrap electro-acoustic guitar.
Based on an instrument that was custom-made by, luthier, Rob Armstrong for Giltrap in 1980, the Vintage signature model was built with the input of both Giltrap and Armstrong.
The Grand Auditorium/000 style guitar features a high-grade, solid, North-American cedar top and mahogany back and sides. We’re guessing the back and sides are laminated as they don’t specify solid in the same way it’s called out for the top. The bridge is rosewood and carries a compensated …

Jimi Hendrix’s home in London is to open to the public as part of an exhibition to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of his death.
The Handel House Museum will host the exhibition which includes clothing and memorabilia as well as handwritten lyrics by Jimi himself.
Hendrix lived in a flat in 23 Brook Street, back in 1968, with his girlfriend at the time, Kathy Etchingham. Handel House Museum is, strictly speaking, at number 25 Brook Street but the buildings at 23 and 25 now form a single building. The top-floor …

The story has had some to and fro today but it seems that the worst has been confirmed: Ronnie James Dio has died.
I spent my formative years listening to Dio. I cut my teeth on Rainbow and Black Sabbath and I loved his solo work. I had tickets to see Heaven and Hell perform in a month or so. His passing has left a void in the heavy metal world and I am truly saddened by the news.
As most fans probably know, Ronnie has been fighting stomach cancer for the …

A little while back, we posted an article with some information to help you spot a counterfeit Gibson guitar. For a while now, there seems to have been a bit of a glut of fake Gibsons coming from the Far East – mostly China. These guitars are pretty readily available on the net from Chinese wholesale sites.
While these instruments aren’t the worst in the world, I’d hate to think of someone being fooled. If you want to buy what you know is a fake Les Paul, while Gibson (quite rightly) …

In a fortuitous follow-on from the recent article about Matt Bellamy’s guitar rig, comes news to intrigue seekers of the Bellamy Tone.
Manson’s Guitar Shop (who will be no strangers to the Bellamyites among the readers) have collaborated with Bare Knuckle pickup manufacturers to produce a new set of custom pickups.
The MBK-3 pickups boast a tight tone, huge bass and powerful output. They claim more ‘kick’ than their siblings, the MBK-1 and MBK-2 pickups used in Manson’s guitars and played by, among others, Bellamy and Josh Homme.
Manson’s and Bare Knuckle have …

The Razer guys are giving away a guitar.
Not just any guitar. This is a custom Atomic Destiny guitar. The very same guitar, in fact, that is custom-made for Razer guitarist, Jeromy Graves. The guitar will have a custom paint job and Razer graphics.
Not only that, before the winner gets his or her clammy riff-digits on the guitar, it will be played on stage. On April 28th, the guitar will be played during the last song of the evening at the famous BB King Blues Club and Grill at the Lucille …

Here’s one for all you crazy youngsters with your YouTubes and your internets and whatnot.
Epiphone are offering the chance to win one of their, rather nice, Masterbuilt acoustic guitars. They’re all-solid, well put together and very, very handsome.
To be in with a chance to win, you need to video yourself playing something on an Epiphone acoustic, upload it to somewhere on the net and submit the link to Epiphone. They’ll scrutinise them and carefully adjudicate (i.e. laugh at them) and the best one will be published on Epiphone’s own site …

For a couple of reasons, I recently had to surgically remove the Guitarless Facebook page. It was a long and painful operation but I’ve now successfully grafted a new page on to the side of Facebook’s torso (I considered its forehead but felt it might get too much teasing at school). Given the changes, I thought I’d take the opportunity to let you have a round-up of the various ways and means to keep in touch with Guitarless news.

On June 8th and 9th, Jeff Beck will play two performances as a tribute to the wonderful Les Paul.
The shows will take place at the Iridium Jazz Club, where Les played every week for the last 12 years of his life. Every Monday, right up until his death at 94, Les played there and these shows are presented by the Iridium in collaboration with Gibson.
Beck will be ably aided by Imelda May and her band. May has worked with Beck on a number of occasions – most notably perhaps, at the …
