Rotosound launch their British Steel guitar strings and provide a, rather splendid, picture of Hendrix and chums too. Click on it for the big image. No doubt it’s cool.
The British Steel strings are based on Rotosound’s original, Stainless Steel Electric Guitar Strings from the 60’s but are manufactured with modern, improved processes and better materials. The new British Steels are designed to give brilliant tone, sustain and volume. Rotosound use stainless steel with the highest possible iron content to provide better magnetic properties.
The originals were used by Hendrix (hence …

Jim Dunlop – purveyor of many cool things such as the MXR range of pedals, the wonderful Crybaby wah and my regular brand of picks – also make strings.
There are a number of gauges and styles of acoustic, electric and bass strings. There’s even banjo strings if some pickin’s yer thang.
Acoustic gauges are available in phosphor-bronze and brass. Electrics run the range from extra light (8 top) to extra heavy (13 top). Four and five string bass sets are available.
In addition, Dunlop have got their heads together with some pretty …

Not content with more guitars than he can eat and a shed-load of new amps (more later, perhaps), Paul Reed Smith is now offering cables.
The PRS ‘Signature’ Series cables are manufactured to Reed Smith’s specifications by Van Damme (UK-based maker of top cables).
The PRS Cables range includes microphone, speaker and, of course, instrument cables.
Let’s face it, cable specs are not the most interesting things in the world. Suffice it to say that these cables are very well shielded, ultra-low capacitance, and are fitted with proper, gold-plated NEUTRIK connectors.
They come with …

If you’ve got an iPhone, you may be familiar with Agile Partners who previously gave us the, very handy, Guitar Toolkit. It’s also worth knowing, however, that Agile also have an iPhone tablature application that does some very clever things.
TabToolkit (iTunes Store link), which works on the iPhone and iPod Touch allows you to view tabs in Power Tab and Guitar Pro formats as well as text and PDF tab files. If you’re using Power Tab or Guitar Pro, TabToolkit will display the information in both tab and standard musical …

Schecterrific.
In fact, if you’re a chick, or perhaps if you know a chick, you might …

This is the Batt-O-Meter from Keith McMillen Instruments.
So what is it?
It’s a battery tester with an interesting twist. It has a lead with a jack plug attached (they call it the ‘Power Probe’). You just plug this into the input on your effects pedals and the Batt-O-Meter can report on the effect’s battery voltage and remaining life – even estimating how many hours of shredding you have left.
It also comes with a switch to more accurately measure between different battery types (alkaline, zinc-carbon and rechargeable).
All told, it’s a relatively clever …

You’ve probably seen the Vox amPlug before. It’s a plug-in headphone amp for late night jamming or those other times when cranking your Marshall stack just isn’t feasible (oh, the horror). Well, Vox have recently added a number of options to the range. You can now have amPlug convenience in a number of additional sound-styles.
As well as the AC30, Classic Rock and Metal styles, you can now get the amPlug in Lead, Bass or Acoustic versions.

Agile Partners’ GuitarToolkit (iTunes Link) provides a bundle of guitary goodness all wrapped up in the Appley goodness of your iPhone.
First off there’s a tuner. Using the built-in microphone on your iPhone, you can use the GuitarToolkit’s chromatic tuner to sort yourself out. Alternate tunings aren’t an issue and you can even create your own if whatever weird one you’re using isn’t available.
Potentially more useful for guitarists to carry around in their pockets, however, is the scale and chord library. There’s half a million chords squeezed into this thing.
You can …
