Non-Destructive Customisation For Your Strat

I think most of us have, at one time or another, considered customising our guitars. Maybe a few stickers, maybe some tape in a poor-man’s EVH, maybe even a new paint job.
The thing that holds many of us back is the irreversibility of it all. Once you’ve painted PUNK in large pink letters on your guitar, it’s there for the foreseeable future, maybe even after you’ve moved on from your punk phase and can’t get a gig in a mellow, jazz trio because you’ve got PUNK scrawled on your guitar.
Thermonetix …

PRS Help Secret Drinkers With Anniversary Hip Flask

Rock ‘n’ roll and booze just go hand in hand, don’t they.  If you’re considering joining the celebrated and illustrious pantheon of rock-stars who have drunk themselves to death you may want to consider accessorising your drinking problem with something guitar-related?
PRS can help with their 25th Anniversary hip flask.
It’s an 8 oz, stainless steel flask with a captive screw-on cap (so you don’t lose it when you’re a little, ahem, worse for wear).
So then, if you’re planning on choking to death on your own vomit, why not do it with …

Woodie’s Guitar Hanger – Clever Wall Suspension For Your Axe

Now this is clever.
WiaMUSIC are offering a unique method of displaying and storing your guitar or bass.
We’re all familiar with the headstock-style guitar hangers. Two prong-things hold the guitar from the headstock end of the neck. It’s all well and good.
Woodie (the man behind WiaMUSIC, we think) has come up with a new idea.
Two clear, acrylic brackets that hold the strap buttons on your guitar.
The brackets can be screwed to the wall and will hold your guitar in any position, even from the ceiling.  Installation seems pretty easy and they …

Rotosound Accessories

Rotosound have a new line of accessories planned for 2010.
First up will be two clip-on tuners.  Each allows you to tune your instrument through the built-in microphone or through the vibration transmitted through the instrument’s headstock.
The RTU009 tuner is a chromatic tuner capable of flat tuning and with a range of B0 to B6.
The RTU007 has a built in metronome and its LCD panel is illuminated (handy on a dark stage).  The 007 has a tuning range of A0 through to c8.
Both models provide for A4 calibration of 430 to …

Crap Like A Rock Star

Holy crap!
Are you so damn, bat-shit, guitar-crazy that you even think about guitars when you answer the call of nature?  If so, these might be just the thing for you.
Jon over at GuitarNoize found these and I can’t decide if they’re an interesting curiosity or the product of a deranged mind.  They’re from Jammin’ John’s and, as you can see, they’re toilet seats in the shape of guitars (he also does piano-shaped seats – bet Elton John as one in each of his nineteen bathrooms).
If you’re a folkie, you …

Staytrem – Vibrato Arm Stays Put

You know the story – you’re mid solo and about to move the audience to tears of awe and emotion with some poignant vibrato action.  You reach for your trem and… nothing.  It’s not where you left it.  The damn thing’s flapped all over the place during your last number and is now pointing backwards.  Your fumbling about for it ruins the moment.  The audience is lost.  They start to throw pint-pots and Pringles tubes – eeeeuuuuww, original flavour.
There is a solution to loose and flappy whammy bars.  Meet the …

iTab Electronic Tab And Notation Readers

Don’t have an iPhone to enable you to view your tabs in electronic format but want a snazzy gizmo backed by a massive tab library?
Well, the iTab could be just the thing.
It’s a new device that, at its simplest, stores and displays tab.  It does a lot more besides – at least in one of its various formats.
Entry level is the iTab Lite with a 5″ screen.  This is the most basic model and can display and scroll chord tabs while allowing some basic editing capabilities.  It’s aimed primarily at …

Chrome-Frets Fret And String Polish

Look at those frets.  Shiny or what?  They’ve been treated to a good cleaning and polishing with Chrome-Frets.
Chrome-Frets uses a solution of liquid PTFE (or Teflon) with cleaners and a very gently wax to clean and, essentially, lubricate your fretboard and, should you wish, your strings.  The lubricant has a dry feel and doesn’t feel sticky to play on – quite the opposite.  You’re left with a clean and fast-playing neck.
The package comes with a bottle of the cleaning/lubricating solution, a leather cleaning pad, and a tough cloth.  In addition, …

Shop Early For Guitarist’s Christmas

You know those Christmas stocking things you can get for your pets with a squeaky bone and some doggie nibbles and whatnot in them?
Well you can get one for the guitarist in your life too.
This is the JHS Christmas Stocking.
The solution to the question: what do you buy the guitarist who has everything?
Not really, but it is a reasonable gift for someone starting out down to road to guitar-based superstardom.  Or, indeed, a reasonable gift if you can’t afford that 1958 Les Paul that your guitarist-significant-other has been pining after. …
