OK, there’s no doubting that this is an interesting idea. Not just an amp in your pocket, it’s potentially a whole slew of amps, speaker cabs, microphones and stompboxes in your pocket.
That’s either a big pocket or AmpliTube’s clever new interface/app combo for iPhone.
The iRig is an external interface that plugs into the headphone socket of your iPhone. It allows you to plug in a standard ¼ inch guitar lead and has a pass-through for your actual headphones.
You make noise on your guitar or bass, it gets processed in the …

Gah! Broken strings. Who needs ’em?
I remember learning to play guitar as a poor teenager and seeking out music stores who sold single strings as I couldn’t afford to replace a whole set. I remember winding extra turns unto my tuners and, when a string broke, carefully tying its ball-end onto the slack in the string so I could avoid having to buy even another single string.
While all of that may have been character-forming, it wasn’t much fun. If only I’d known then about a relatively simple method of reducing the …

Omar Rodríguez-López (guitarist from The Mars Volta) and John Frusciante (erstwhile Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist) have recorded an album together.
And, best of all, it’s available for free download.
That said, donations are encouraged and, while not required, it would be nice if anyone that downloaded gave a little. All donations received will be re-donated to ‘Keep Music In Schools’. Also, consider that any donation, however small, encourages this sort of distribution model and can’t hurt in the fight to get record companies to realise there are alternatives to nabbing as …

Wanna sound like Slash?
Well, while you’ll just have to practise the intro to Paradise City until your fingers remember it, at least you have a chance to get your sound right.
Seymour Duncan are giving away ten sets (pairs) of the Slash Signature Humbuckers. I actually haven’t heard these pickups in person yet but the specs are sufficient to make me feel they’re going to sound great.
They’ve got AlNiCo II magnets and are wound just slightly hot – should be enough for some nice crunch and sustain without getting that overwound …

This is the OPC (which I’m relatively sure stands for nothing more complicated than ‘Orange PC’).
A computer in an amp?
Orange announced it recently and the associated news article on their web site carries the headline “Orange launches its new PC division”.
I don’t normally just paste in press release text but, in this case I think I will. I’ll come back to my own views after the release – hope that’s ok.
Orange Amplifiers, the British based pioneering force in guitar amplifiers, are proud to announce the launch of the revolutionary all-in-one …

All the kids want to know about Matt Bellamy’s rig.
“What’s in the rig? Can I get one of those guitars? How do I build a KAOSS pad into my guitar? Did I ask what’s in the rig?” Crazy kids.
Well, wonder no longer (well, about the rig at least – the KAOSS might need a bit more planning). Dunlop’s channel on YouTube has an interview with Jason Baskin, Bellamy’s guitar tech. It concentrates more on the rig and effects and, if you’ve an interest in getting a Musey sound, you might …

So what the hell’s being going on around here? Conspicuous by my absence? Yes indeed, things have been quiet here at Guitarless of late but I’ve got a good excuse. Honest, I have.
You see, a few weeks back I took headbanging a little too far and managed to fracture my skull. Yep, really. And, as it turns out, it seems that a broken head can play havoc with your plans to bring guitary wonderfulness to the masses.
As the very long hangover seems to have passed, we’ll be getting back to …

Following the success of their previous live webcast, the Lick Library are set to do it again. This time with an improvement…
You may remember that, last time round, we mentioned that timezone issues meant running a single, global webcast would inevitably mean the time wouldn’t suit some people in the world. The Lick Library have addressed this issue with their second Live Webcast.
Yep, there’s two.
So then, on the 11th or March, Lick Library will run two webcasts at different times to allow people to tune in at a time that …

I’ve been an AC/DC fan forever. The first riff I ever learned was The Jack. I’ve been listening to Angus and the boys for so long that it’s sometimes a surprise when I’m reminded just how popular they are with, you know, normal people.
Let me explain a little. Many of the bands I grew up rocking to haven’t gained the widespread acceptance, and even love, that AC/DC have. Everybody loves AC/DC. And if you don’t, why don’t you? If you’re a guitarist, you’d better have a good reason.
Or, you could …
