3rd Power – Amp And Triangular Speaker Cabs

Weird, eh?  This is the 3rd Power HD100 amplifier head sitting atop three separate HLH 312 speaker cabinets.
The HD100 is a US-made, 100W, all-valve amplifier head.  It’s built with point-to-point construction and has two, foot-switchable channels.  A ‘voicing’ switch can toggle from ‘smooth’ (classic, vintage tones) to ‘bold’, which we’re told provides a more lyrical quality.
Each of the HLH312 speaker cabinets (and remember, there are three in this image) contains three Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.  3rd Power claim that the design of the cabinets eliminates the beaming and comb-filtering associated …

PRS Ampire Expansion – Sweet 16 Amp

Ahhh, sweet, low-wattage valve tones.
Paul Reed Smith’s efforts to take over the world continue apace with this, the Sweet 16.
We’re talking a 16 watt head powered by 6V6 valves.  It’s a master volume amp with a full treble/middle/bass stack and a built in reverb.  The amps are handwired (albeit to printed circuit boards) in the US.
All pots, switches, jacks, and power tube sockets are chassis-mounted which bodes well for reliability.
Tube-wise, the 6V6s are cathode biased, in push-pull, to near class A.  The preamp tubes are a little unusual.  There are …

Vox Amplug – Plug And Play Baby Amps

You’ve probably seen the Vox amPlug before.   It’s a plug-in headphone amp for late night jamming or those other times when cranking your Marshall stack just isn’t feasible (oh, the horror).  Well, Vox have recently added a number of options to the range.  You can now have amPlug convenience in a number of additional sound-styles.
As well as the AC30, Classic Rock and Metal styles, you can now get the amPlug in Lead, Bass or Acoustic versions.
Lead is modelled on a US high-gain boutique amplifier.  This amPlug has a digital delay …

Line 6 Announce M9 Stompbox Modeler and Spider MkII

The massive-foreheaded boffins in Line 6 have been busy of late and have announced and shipped two new rock-toys.
First off is the M9 Stompbox Modeler. This is a multi-effect pedal that houses a huge collection of splendid stompbox-type effects. Included are loads of distortions and drives, compressors and reverbs. There are filters, modulators and pitch-shifters. It’s also got a number of effects lifted from Line 6’s DL4 delay modeler and includes a 28-second looper with plenty of control over your loops.
You can run three effects simultaneously and can tweak the …

Five Star Class

A five-watt, class A, all-valve, baby-Bluesbreaker? Yes please.
This is the Class 5 from Marshall who are, thankfully, jumping on the low-powered valve amp-wagon. Sporting a pair of ECC83s in its preamp stage and a single EL84 to perform power-amp duties, Marshall tell us it’ll do the necessary for home, studio, rehearsals or even small gigs. This latter may require using its handy speaker output but bedroom guitarists around the world should be ably catered for.
Simplicity is the order of the day. You get your Treble, Middle and Bass tone shapers …
