Jimmy Page On Tours and World Peace Awards
The photograph may not be current but the news is. Jimmy Page has been a busy little bee lately.
We mentioned a while back that he’s been talking about planning a tour for 2010 and also that he’s been philatelising (yeah, we know it’s not a word) with a new range of UK rock ‘n’ roll postage stamps.
Not content with all that, he’s announced that he’ll headline a free concert later this spring.
The Show Of Peace concert will be held in Beijing, China, on April 17th, 2010. It will be a free concert and it looks like it will also feature Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Michael Jackson’s erstwhile guitarist, Orianthi.
The concert is to honour peace and harmony and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. More information on acts will follow in the next few weeks.
After the press conference to announce the concert, Page was (apparently) surprised by being presented with the very first Global Peace Award from the UN’s Pathway To Peace organisation.
Jimmy said:
“Although this award has my name on it, this is a tribute to the power of music and its positive effect. Music has been the most powerful language to reach the hearts of people around the world. During my career, I’ve experienced the connection and harmony that music can bring.”
