Red Hot Chili PeppersAgain with the Klinghoffer?

‘Fraid so.  I bring news.

OK.  Before going on, it should be said that there’s an excellent chance any new and unusual happening related the Klnghoffer and his place in the Chili Peppers is actually down to confirmation bias. What I mean is that it’s entirely possible that the events – in and of themselves – aren’t that unusual and, because we’re all looking for weird conspiracies, that’s what we’re finding.  With that in mind, we should all take new information with a small pinch of salt.

That said, I’m having a ball trying to figure this all out and it seems that there are a number of other people who feel the same.

Today’s news:

Gibson Guitars, in a post today on their blog, declared Klinghoffer the official guitarist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The post reads:

Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer Becomes Official Member Of Red Hot Chili Peppers

Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has confirmed he’s officially joined Red Hot Chili Peppers, MusicRadar.com reports. Klinghoffer, who has toured previously with the Peppers, replaces John Frusciante, who announced on December 16 that he was no longer a member of the band.

Klinghoffer had reportedly been jamming with the Peppers since Frusciante’s departure. The versatile musician, who also plays drums, toured with the band as second guitarist on their 2007 Stadium Arcadium tour. He’s also served as tour guitarist for Beck, PJ Harvey, and Gnarls Barkley, among others.

Curiously, Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are currently working on material for a new album, have yet to issue an official statement regarding either Frusciante or Klinghoffer. Klinghoffer will presumably take the stage with the band on January 29, when the group performs at the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute to Neil Young.

The post is dated today, 7th January.  It references reports from Music Radar but doesn’t link to any specific article there.  Searching the site for anything relevant only produces their post from January 2nd and we all know that things have moved on since then.

Odds are pretty good that the Gibson report is simply using old information gleaned from Music Radar. Nevertheless, I thought you’d all like to know.

In other developments, josh-klinghoffer.net (which recently had the note referenced here), at the moment, simply redirects to Klinghoffer’s Wikipedia page. Thanks again to Squitherwitch at The Chili Source for that one.

Keep it under your tinfoil hats, you wonderful Klinghoffer Chili Conspiracy Nuts.
