Released today, Christmas Day, exclusively in Japan, is this handsome new Epiphone.
This is the Tak Matsumoto Signature DC Custom. Tak is one of Japan’s leading guitarists and he’s managed to wangle this signature model from Epiphone.
It’s based on the popular model from Gibson’s Custom Shop and is a bit special.
Its a double-cut mahogany body with a glued-in mahogany neck. The neck joint is of the long-tenon type which gives excellent neck/body coupling and contributes to a great tone and longer sustain. The body is bound in multi-ply (w/b/w/b/w/b/w if you …

We know this isn’t exactly breaking news but we’ve just found these sound samples of the Epiphone Wilshire and figured it would make a reasonable excuse to take a look at this guitar.
Not that we really need any excuse to consider a Wilshire here at Guitarless. We frickin’ love the Wilshire.
Released a couple of months back, Epiphone’s new Wilshire is a reproduction of the original ’66 model. All mahogany body and neck and a traditional set-neck joint – meeting at the 22nd fret and allowing excellent access to the dusty …

I talked about the Epiphone Swingster when it was released a while back. I liked it then and we like it now.
I’d quite like to have one. So would you, I’m sure.
Well, maybe you can. If you head off to Epiphone, you can enter a competition and be in with a chance to get your sticky, sweaty, rock-a-billy hands on this swing-thing.
Go on. You’d be mad not to.

Gibson tell us of a recent upsurge in fake and counterfeit Gibson guitars for sale – many of which are sold from Chinese wholesale sites like TradeTang.com, DHGate.com and MadeInChina.com (although this is, by no means, an exclusive list).
You can see such ‘bargains’ as a Les Paul Supreme for $297 or an Dot Reissue 335 for $346.
If only…
Remember, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. However, some information to (maybe) help in spotting a fake Gibson follows:
There seem to be a few things that the fakers …

Announced ages ago as a ‘coming soon’ teaser, the Epiphone Roy Orbison 12-String has now been released.
This is a reproduction of the ’62 Epiphone Bard guitar on which he wrote and performed a crap-load of famous songs, including one about a prostitute with a heart of gold who falls in love with Richard Gere.
This has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back. No mention of the sides, so I’m guessing they’re laminated (certainly not the end of the world). Oh, and it has twelve tuners. That’s six better than …

Epiphone have rocked up the original Emperor-II and produced this, the Emperor Swingster. The Emperor-II had a jazzy connection with Joe Pass but Epiphone want this baby to have a more rock-a-billy vibe.
So, lets see then… We’re gonna need a Bigsby. Oh yeah. There it is. Check. It’s actually a Bigsby B30 and it has the nice wire-style handle. We prefer the look of these to be honest. From the Bigbsy, the strings travel over a tune-o-matic equipped with roller saddles so tuning should be improved (at least a little). …

This is the Graveyard Disciple, a collaboration between Epiphone and Zakk Wylde. And it’s, erm, a coffin.
It’s a limited edition coffin, however, comprising a mahogany body and a maple neck all decked out in funereal black. An ebony fingerboard and none-more-black hardware complete the look.
It’s loaded with EMG-HZ pickups. These are passive pickups and are probably a concession to the price bracket. It does come with a proper Floyd Rose trem though.
The Graveyard Disciple is certainly not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Those that will be attracted by …
