Oh Macca, you crazy, left-handed, veggie-eating, Beatle, you.

Paul McCartney is in trouble. Well, not really. He has, however, ruffled the feathers of Republican Congressman, and House Minority Leader, John Boehner.

McCartney was recently awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library of Congress. The award was presented, in the White House by President Obama and Macca was full of praise for the president…

The current president, anyway.

“Getting this prize would just be good enough, but getting it from this president…” said McCartney. He went on to say, “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

Congressman Boehner said he was “…surprised and disappointed by the lack of grace and respect he displayed at the White House. I hope he’ll apologize to the American people for his conduct which demeaned him, the White House and President Obama.”

The story is all over the net and it’s interesting to read the polarised opinions and comments depending on the source of the article and the writers’ and commenters’ allegiances. Many Republican-leaning, would-be pundits are keen to point out that George W. Bush was reportedly a very keen reader and (perhaps taking the jibe a little too literally) that his wife was a librarian. Many accuse McCartney of cheap shots just before taking cheap shots of their own with no sense of self-awareness or hypocrisy. Non-Republicans and everyone else just tend to head straight for the cheap shots.

All seems like a storm in a teacup of amusing molehills to me.
