Got A Bad Reputation

I get press releases from Rotosound relatively frequently. Some of the information in those releases has found its way onto this site if I thought it might be useful to others.
This time though, I’m posting an image from this Rotosound release just because I like it.
Rotosound say they found a programme from Thin Lizzy’s Bad Reputation tour in their archives and it contained the ad above for their Jazz Bass strings. They say some other stuff about strings and other users and whatnot but I tuned out to be honest.
I …

Review: Rotosound R10 Roto Yellows

It’s occurred to me that many (I’d go so far as to say most) guitarists don’t change their strings very often. Let me clarify that a little; I mean their string brands. I suspect that, like me, many people find a brand, and usually a gauge, they like and stick with it.
It’s entirely possible this might be fine. However, there’s nothing wrong with giving things a shake now and then.
Case in point:
A while ago, I received a couple of sets of Rotosound strings to review. These were the R10 …

Rotosound Super Bronze Acoustic Strings

Take a look at that string. Notice anything?
This is from Rotosound’s Super Bronze Acoustic String set and it’s a bit different. At least from anything we’ve seen in a while. Click on the image to embiggenate.
You see, in 1974, James How, the founder of Rotosound released an acoustic string set with a difference. Those strings, called ‘Country Golds’ at the time, had the windings start a little away from the ball-end and tie – the core of the string was exposed for a short distance. The idea was that the …

Rotosound Rotos Strings – Now Twice As Nice

How do you make a good thing better?
By doubling it.
Rotosound are now offering their best-selling R9 and R10 Rotos nickel-on-steel guitar strings in twin set packaging.  Rotosound are calling these packs, Double Deckers.
By doing this, Rotosound can reduce packaging by around 70% compared to buying two separate packs of strings.  This means savings to you too.  If you buy your strings in a Double Decker pack you’ll get them up to 20% cheaper than two individual packs.
The new Double Decker packs are coded R9-2 and R10-2 and represent Rotosound’s Rotos …

Rotosound Accessories

Rotosound have a new line of accessories planned for 2010.
First up will be two clip-on tuners.  Each allows you to tune your instrument through the built-in microphone or through the vibration transmitted through the instrument’s headstock.
The RTU009 tuner is a chromatic tuner capable of flat tuning and with a range of B0 to B6.
The RTU007 has a built in metronome and its LCD panel is illuminated (handy on a dark stage).  The 007 has a tuning range of A0 through to c8.
Both models provide for A4 calibration of 430 to …

Rotosound British Steel Guitar Strings

Rotosound launch their British Steel guitar strings and provide a, rather splendid, picture of Hendrix and chums too.  Click on it for the big image.  No doubt it’s cool.
The British Steel strings are based on Rotosound’s original, Stainless Steel Electric Guitar Strings from the 60’s but are manufactured with modern, improved processes and better materials.  The new British Steels are designed to give brilliant tone, sustain and volume.  Rotosound use stainless steel with the highest possible iron content to provide better magnetic properties.
The originals were used by Hendrix (hence …
