Fender Roger Waters P-Bass

Well that’s quite snazzy, isn’t it?
That’s the Fender Roger Waters Precision Bass and it’s now shipping. As you can see, it features a none-more-black body, pickguard, bridge and control hardware which I think looks great teamed with the maple neck and fingerboard. Very smart, indeed.
At first glance, the inclusion of chrome tuners is a little odd when all of the other hardware is black. It gives the bass sort of a ‘bitser’ look which may well be the point. Whatever the case, and possibly perversely, I quite like it. …

Wanna sound like Slash?
Well, while you’ll just have to practise the intro to Paradise City until your fingers remember it, at least you have a chance to get your sound right.
Seymour Duncan are giving away ten sets (pairs) of the Slash Signature Humbuckers.  I actually haven’t heard these pickups in person yet but the specs are sufficient to make me feel they’re going to sound great.
They’ve got AlNiCo II magnets and are wound just slightly hot – should be enough for some nice crunch and sustain without getting that overwound …

Seymour Duncan has announced a bundle of new pickup models for 2010 and some sound quite tasty.
Alnico II Pro Slash
This is modelled after the pickup in Slash’s main recording Les Paul.  Apparently Slash intends to use it to make his live guitars sound more like his favourite studio instrument. That sounds like a pretty good endorsement to us.
As the name suggests, this uses Alnico II magnets but it’s wound a little hotter to push a Les Paul that bit closer to Slash’s signature crunch and sustain.  Single conductor cable and …

Gibson Angus Young SG Standard (Custom Shop Model)

If you’ve already read the previous article on the production model of the Angus Young SG, you’ll know a lot of what this revamp of the Angus signature line is all about.
This one is the Gibson Custom Shop version – the Angus Young SG Standard – and while it’s similar, it does have a few important variations that are worth considering in their own right.
